Ballet Senegal

20 June, Thursday 5:00 pm, Main Square

The ensemble is made up by Senegalese and Guinean dancers and mucisians. Many from the group have been pursuing music since their childhood, with their innate artistic ability from Africa.
During the sessions, they play several instruments in their spectacular outfits while they dance to the choreography of several West African tribes. Ballet Senegal’s repertoire features some of these dances: yela, kuku, dundumba, diola, serer, and the Senegalese national dance mbalax.
Their most spectacular product is the peul dance, presenting the so-called “kunnawal” tradition of acrobatic dancing with giant calabash instruments. The excellent performers play a lot of instruments during the performance, such as the laala or calabash rattle, calabash drums, the balafon, the sabar, djembe, and dundun drums.
