Hungarian Animators, Part 1

Curated by the Hungarian Academy of Arts’ Institute of Art Theory and Methodology, through the initiative of József Fülöp and Tamás Kollarik, a new volume of studies on the history and present of Hungarian animation was released. After the critically acclaimed volume Animációs körkép (A Review of Hungarian Animation, 2017), a new book has been released, titled Hungarian Animators, Part I (orig.: Magyar animációs alkotók I.). Interviews with Marcell Jankovics, Ferenc Rófusz, Ferenc Mikulás are featured, as well as with Géza M. Tóth, Béla Klingl, or Réka Bucsi.

The foreword, written by József Fülöp and Tamás Kollarik, emphasizes that “we aimed to represent the heralds of the 20th century Golden Age, and the legends of Hungarian animation, including people from mid-generation and the youngest alike. Many of these experienced animators are well known figures of Hungarian cultural life, though some of them rarely get in the spotlight; and there are people who deem the preparation of younger generations important, besides their own creative activity. Among the interviewees, new stars of Hungarian animation also speak. Their career launched off last year with international success, globally representing contemporary Hungarian animation...”
