In his book published in 2016, Hungarian Animated Film: Approaches in Formal and Institutional History, Zoltán Varga tried to investigate more than 100 years of Hungarian animated film. In 2019, MMA Kiadó and the Municipality of the Town of Kecskemét endorsed the latest book of the author, Animated Film in Kecskemét. Due to its similar efforts, the book can be considered as a sequel of the previous volume. The author, native of Kecskemét, presents the decades of Kecskemétfilm. The world of animated movies made here are presented to the reader. The volume discusses the history of the studio – from the very beginnings up to the present day. It continues with the analysis of animated series and single films from Kecskemét; including: Water Spider Wonder Spider, Hungarian Folktales, Urban Legends; and Minstrels, Miracles of the Night, Balance. The book also discusses influential oeuvres of directors.
“Fifty years, three hundred productions and films. A large variety of films, made according to the most diverse requests. The author examines them, almost one by one; he documents the origin stories of these films, their technical aspects, the details of their genres; their place claimed in their age of origin, in the studio, and in animation history” – writes Péter Szoboszlay, animation director in the foreword.
