Pál Sándor LAKATOS was born in Pelişor, Satu Mare, Romania, in 1960. He graduated at the sculpture department of the Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca in 1990. At the beginning of the ‘80s, he created sculptures with an absurd and grotesque tone, reflecting to the Communist dictatorship. His public sculptures installed in the ‘90s show the figural tradition and strict composition of the Cluj-Napoca art school. His style gradually evolved to his synthesizing crust sculptures reminding of armours, at the end of the 1990s. Lakatos’ medium-sized sculptures are made of stone, iron, and primarily from bronze.
He lives in Kecskemét since 1991. At first, he worked in the International Ceramics Studio and Studio NZA, and became the founding teacher of Kandó Kálmán Secondary School of Fine and Applied Arts. His sculptures are regularly featured in national and international exhibitions of countries such as France, Denmark, Finland and Germany. He participates in numerous national and international art colonies, which he helped to launch.
